Your Last-Minute Guide to Summer Jobs

Here it is again, summer.

You survived yet another finals week and are ready to take on the next three months of humidity, music festivals, and oh wait… forgot to get a summer job. Again. Alright, I know that most people plan these things ahead but you are just not that person, are you? I know I’m not. So here are a few tips to help you (and me) land a not-so-awful summer gig.

Tip One: Check Craigslist

I know that Craigslist sounds incredibly questionable, but a surprising amount of really great companies post jobs on there. Example: I found two jobs at places that are well known and emailed them and had an interview within the next couple of days. Be warned, however, you might come across some job listings that you neither would have considered nor would have cared to learn about.

Tip Two: Look now

You can only procrastinate so much before everything is gone. Places are looking, especially now that there’s a shift in who’s living wherever you are for the summer. However, the better the job, the more quickly it will get snatched up. You know you’re not doing anything besides spending your day in bed with Netflix, so just rain check on House of Cards and print out a few resumes and hit up places you think will be fun.

Tip Three: Get creative

There are plenty of cool, fun ways that can help you pick up extra money this summer. Crafty at all? Try selling your things on Etsy! If you’re really desperate to pick up extra cash, donating plasma is always an option. You can make over $200 per month that way, just check out your local center. Are you a dog person? Why not start a dog walking business. You get paid to play with puppies!

The faster you act, the better your chances are for landing a cool summer job. It’s not too late for those of you who tend to procrastinate! Just keep your mind open and you could be making major bank this summer. Your friends with unpaid internships will all be jealous.
